What is Rose Gold?

Rose Gold gives off a pinkish hue. This is because of the traces of copper in the metal alloy. The mixture that makes the final alloy of rose gold is three parts gold to one part copper or 75 per cent gold and 25 per cent copper. The exact amounts of rose and copper however vary. Some manufacturers adjust the tint and as a result they add other trace amounts of other metals to adjust the color of the metal. Gold is mixed with silver or other metals. Copper's natural color is a deep burnished red. As a result, diluting it with gold in the alloy gives it a pinkish tinge.

Gold is too soft a metal to be beaten or turned into jewellery. It is mixed with palladium, nickel, silver and copper to give it strength of being turned into jewellery and the exact amounts if these metals give gold its color. Yellow and white colors of gold are gaining in popularity and rose gold engagement rings are the most poluar of them. The tinge of the gold also depends on its karat value. A higher karat value of pink gold will be lighter than lesser karat value because there is more gold in the mix. This would in turn diminish the effect of the copper tinting.

Styles of Rose Gold Engagement Rings

There are different shades of rose gold engagement rings. It is widely used in different engagement ring designs. It is also popular in multi-tone ring designs. This happens in spite of it being rare and because the alloy is extremely beautiful in comparison to traditional metals. Increasingly many brides-to-be are favoring rose gold engagement rings. There are other rings which use rose gold, for example,
Filigree engagement rings, Celtic Engagement rings, Mokume Gane Engagement Rings, Claddagh Engagement rings and inlaid engagement rings.

In the Filigree Engagement rings the subtle pink color of the rose gold adds to the charm and romanticism of these rings. In Celtic Engagement rings other metals are used and the gold is twined and intertwined into beautiful patterns. In the process a beautiful multi-tone ring is given shape. In the Mokume Gane Engagement rings have beautiful patterns are created and rose gold is a unique choice to create these patterns. In the Claddagh Engagement rings design there is a symbolic heart and rose, pink or red gold is often used to create this heart and add to the appeal. Inlays are used for subtle design contrasts and in many simple engagement rings and rose gold is a good choice for achieving that end. There are different combinations to make a rose gold engagement ring look beautiful. The look of the ring is designed by the use of different metals, pink metal to act as the crown of the ring and the rim of a bezel setting or as edging to a different type of metal along the band. Some couples choose rose shades to go with pink diamonds.

Finding Rose Gold Engagement Rings

Rose Gold is relatively rare but independent jewelers are offering these pieces of jewellery. Many custom rings can be requested with rose gold. You can also look for antique rings, particularly with an art deco styling. Designer rings are turning more towards unusual metals than was the case sometime ago. The popularity of rose gold rings has risen as the colored gold rings have been used by celebrities.

The Cost of the Metal

The price of rose gold is almost similar to the far more commonly available yellow gold. As copper is less expensive than silver the cost of rose gold is cheaper than other alloys. But as a whole rose gold engagement rings are rare and this makes them more expensive. Some couples might have to place an order at an independent jeweler's or buy a custom-made ring.

Caring for Rose Gold

Rose Gold requires the same care as any other gold jewellery needs - avoiding use while working with harsh chemicals, cleaning it regularly and avoiding dangerous situations where the ring runs the risk of getting scratched or disfigured. To an individual allergic to copper the rose gold ring may be a bit of a problem as the finger may swell or discolor.
