HISTORY OF THE ENGAGEMENT RING

The appeal of the engagement ring is universal. It is taken, as a token of love and carries with it lots of promises. Have you ever tried to know the history of this precious ring? The early Greeks and Romans gave the engagement rings to the woman that they wished to marry in future. However the sole credit goes to the Greek as pioneers to start the trend to wear the ring in the fourth finger of the left hand because they believed that particular finger of the left hand has a vein which is directly connected to the heart. The rings are usually round in shapes to indicate eternity, a complete love circle.

Previously, the engagement ring did not only show a connection between a man and women but also the properties or lands that each possessed. Presumably the first engagement rings were made of plants or other discarded things then the use of stones in the ring came into use. The gems stone is the first material that was incorporated in making of a ring after the rings made of plants and leathers, for hundred of years diamonds were rare and expensive to use in the engagement rings.

It was only women who received engagement rings before but after the world war 2, the scenario changed and even men started to receive engagement ring as they had to stay away from their loved ones for long time and the ring was the only remembrance of their love.

The first ever diamond engagement ring was presented to women by her man in the 15th century and slowly the appeal increased as diamond rings were considered to the symbol of purity and trust which still managed to keep up its appeal in to day’s time.

However, whether an engagement ring is a diamond ring or not, the ring in no way looses its importance and value. The fashion of engagement ring has its long history but still has not lost its appeal and there is no possibility that it is going to in next hundreds of years.
